Shanannigans’ Picks for the Weekend

Yay it’s the weekend! Not sure what you have planned but if you are at a loose end, why not take in a flick or go to the theater. Not sure what to watch? Here are some movies that I have watched recently and thoroughly enjoyed.

Ex Machina

Ex Machina (stylized as ex_machina) is Ex-machina-uk-postera 2015 British science fiction psychological thriller written and directed by Alex Garland in his directing debut. It stars Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander and Oscar Isaac. Ex Machina tells the story of programmer Caleb Smith (Gleeson) who is invited by his employer, the eccentric billionaire Nathan Bateman (Isaac), to administer the Turing test to an android with artificial intelligence (Vikander).

These Final Hours

These Final Hours is a 2013 Australian These_Final_Hoursapocalyptic thriller written and directed by Zak Hilditch. It was selected to be screened as part of the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. It stars Nathan Phillips, Angourie Rice, Jessica De Gouw, Daniel Henshall, and Kathryn Beck.

About Time 

About Time is a 2013 British romantic About_Time_Postercomedy-drama about a young man with the special ability to time travel and tries to change his past in order to improve his future. The film was written and directed by Richard Curtis, and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy. It was released in the United Kingdom on September 4 2013 and in the United States on November 1 2013.

Sisters 

Sisters is a 2015 American comedy Sisters_movie_posterdirected by Jason Moore and written by Paula Pell. The film stars Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, John Leguizamo, Ike Barinholtz, John Cena, James Brolin and Dianne Wiest. The film was released on December 18, 2015 by Universal Pictures.

The Intern 

The Intern is a 2015 American comedy The_Intern_Posterdirected, produced and written by Nancy Meyers. The film stars Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in the two leading roles, with supporting performances from Rene Russo, Anders Holm, Andrew Rannells, Adam DeVine, Christina Scherer, and Zack Pearlman. The film was released on September 25, 2015 by Warner Bros.
