The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Movie Review

When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) jump-starts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battle Ultron, a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they encounter two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.

My thoughts…

I have always enjoyed the Iron Man franchise and as a result, like The Avengers movies, maybe some more than others. This movie is an example of one I really liked.

The usual suspects are all accounted for. Predictably witty and enjoyable to watch onscreen but not the stars of this movie. Not this time. For me the new-comers really drove this vehicle.

Elizabeth Olsen is spectacular as Wanda Maximoff and she will make an awesome addition to the franchise. Aaron Taylor – Johns played alongside as her twin also known as Quicksilver, and the two compliment each other really well.  Their super powers are pretty amazing but Olsen really shines as Wanda. I would not want to get on her bad side.

James Spade kills it as Ultron. There is no mistaking his smarmy voice oozing sarcasm in whatever role he fills. For me, he epitomizes the villain you love to hate and he does not disappoint. He’s so good at being bad you will root for him even the you know you’re not supposed to and I really loved his take on the apocalyptic AI.

Other things that make this particular installment stand out are the stunts and special effects. We have really come a long way in making an a action sequence come alive. Even the Hulk looks more realistic, taking on Ruffalo’s look and facial expressions. Hubby and I had a ton of fun watching. My only regret is not seeing it on the big screen to get the full effect.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some things that could have been done better and though the banter between characters is funny, it came off as contrived at times. When Marvel and company make another and they will, some changes would be in order to make it fresh and new. We all love Tony Stark for being…well Tony Stark but even he gets a little stale after a while.

I will give Age of Ultron a B. It was a solid effort and the addition of new cast made it a pretty good film to watch. Now if they only did more with Black Widow. She’s an awesome character that needs to be in the forefront a little more 😉

Rating… B
