10 Cloverfield Lane

Movie Review

It has been years since Cloverfield was released but what most people don’t know is that there is a huge cult following, a Cloverfield universe if you will, spawned by clever viral marketing for both the original movie and now 10 Cloverfield Lane. See detailed back story here!

What makes this movie so special is the cast. Comprised of only 3 very talented actors working together on one small set, they create, in my humble opinion a masterful horror film full of suspense and plot twists at every turn.

Plot Synopsis

After surviving a car crash Michelle  (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up in an underground bunker to Howard (John Goodman ) who tells her that there has been some sort of attack that has rendered the air contaminated. The bunker is completely self-contained and Howard explains that she is very lucky that he found her and brought her here, otherwise she would be dead along with everyone else.

Naturally Michelle is skeptical and thinks that she has been kidnapped but there is another person down their with them called Emmet (John Gallagher Jr). He confirms Howard’s story… says he saw the attack himself and begged Howard to take him in.

Despite the comforts of home and her trusting relationship with Emmet, Howard’s odd behaviour and threatening demeanor makes Michelle desperate to get outside and find out the truth for herself.

What I thought…

Unfortunately this is one of those times where I can’t divulge too much information because it would ruin the movie for you. What I will tell you is that I loved it. It kept me guessing right till the last scene. I enjoyed it more than the first movie and the suspense created was more psychological and for me that is far more terrifying.

I totally recommend this movie. It’s fun, thrilling and will leave you with a giant question mark above your head till the very end.

Rating… B+

  3. Very cool back story!

I enjoyed the movie very much as well, especially given the fact that we are stuck in a bunker with only 3 actors to keep us entertained.

This movie took some serious acting and proved that CGI is not the be all and end all of movies. Yes, I am aware it was used towards the end, but in all fairness, by the time it arrived, the movie had already left its mark on the viewers.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. I liked Cloverfield it was exciting and fun but all special effects and obvious scares lol. This one relied only on the talents of 3 people and I found it more suspenseful and surprising!

John Goodman was great! It’s nice to see him in a darker film.
