Movie Review
Now You See Me 2 is a little slower than the original but the magic is no less impressive! (No Spoilers)
Now You See Me was an exciting movie full of mystery, magic and incredible special effects. The sequel, while still boasting amazing effects, was just a tad slow and perhaps unnecessary.
The Premise
In this sequel, illusionists known as the Four Horsemen return to perform a spectacular stunt in the hopes of clearing their name and exposing the unscrupulous behavior of a tech mogul.
Starring: Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Radcliffe and Morgan Freeman.
How was it?
NYSM 2 was a good movie and a fair sequel. The problem with following up a really unique and exciting movie, is that sometimes you can’t recreate the same “magic” because the audience has seen it already. Not to say that NYSM 2 didn’t deliver new and awe-inspiring illusions this time around, because it does, just that people in general are hard to impress. We’ve seen it all, so it has to be really special.
The cast is fantastic. I loved the addition of Lizzy Caplan as Lula. She’s quirky and sassy, a good fit for the boys’ club. There is great chemistry between cast members and Woody Harrelson is awesome as always. It’s difficult to accept Daniel Radcliffe in his role as villain, because like Elijah Wood before him, he will always be Harry Potter. At best a young boy. He does poke fun at this in the film, so at least he knows it.
As a whole I liked it enough and I was entertained. I just don’t think a sequel was necessary because the original was special on its own. It is hard to recreate that kind of movie a second time. I would suggest waiting to watch it on Netflix or your favourite equivalent. Save yourself the ticket price and enjoy it at home.
