Unpopular Opinion Tag

As book bloggers we’re generally going on about the books we love.

Zuky from Book Bum posted a piece about this today and I thought it sounded like a lot of fun. A chance to talk about some of the things I don’t like.

Naturally I am going to tag some peeps whose answers I’d love to read. Don’t worry if you can’t. It’s just for fun!

I nominate the following bloggers:

1. A popular book or series that you didn’t like.

I don’t hate the series, I just found that it was a smidge overrated. As a huge fan of sci-fi, particularly dystopian sci-fi, I have seen this theme too many times to count. Sometimes it is done really well, others…not so much. Regardless, people can’t seem to get enough of Mare Barrow. I on the other hand am very tired of her.

2. A popular book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love.

As the very, very long-awaited sequel to Stephen King’s “The Shining”, fans had HUGE expectations. Unfortunately for many “Doctor Sleep” didn’t live up to the hype. I myself really enjoyed it. I mean what did we expect from the little psychic boy whose father butchered the whole family (or almost)? A well-adjusted member of society? I think the fact that he managed not to off himself is pretty amazing. Just saying.

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with or that you don’t like.

The Katniss, Gale and Peeta triangle from “The Hunger Games.” Seriously? She should have ended up with Gale but whatever!

4. A popular book genre that you hardly reach for.

Paranormal Romance– Not that I’m saying I haven’t read many that are quite good, just that they aren’t my favourite. Also, there are too many! The genre is saturated. By the way I have not read the book depicted above. It’s just a random example and could be fabulous for all I know 😉

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

Katniss Everdeen, and not just because she didn’t choose Gale. She is truly an awful person! The way she plays the two boys against each other? Also she is one of the most selfish people I have ever encountered in a book series. You can argue that her glitchy moral compass was necessary in order to take on President Snow but think about all of the really horrible decisions she made or how she treated people. I still loved the books.

6. A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.

Post-Harry Potter J.K. Rowlings! Her adult stuff is so boring! Not to mention pretentious and unnecessarily long.

7. A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing.

The “guy” saves the “girl” in the end! In almost all genres! I’m so tired of seeing this. Don’t even get me started on Disney movies. My daughter is only allowed to watch modern Disney princesses. Right now she is obsessed with Frozen and I’m okay with that.

9. The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

Have you seen this movie? It’s marvelous! Considering it is pretty much Matt Damon all on his own for the movie, it is bloody fantastic! The science, SFX and set design were out of this world (Pun intended) I can’t rave about this movie enough.

Little secret… I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t read the book yet but honestly if the adaptation is this good then the book is either really good or really horrible.

This was a ton of fun!
