Thank You Zuky from Book Bum for tagging me. This is a fun one! I hope my answers don’t bore you all to death 😉
eBooks or physical books?
Physical books always! I held out for as long as I could before buying and eReader because I’m a purist at heart. However, due to the sheer volume of books I read in a year it’s just more practical to own an eReader.
Paperback or hardback?
Paperbacks. Not only are they cheaper but they are more comfortable to read. That said, when I’m collecting a special series I want the hardcovers for the shelves.
Online or in-store shopping?
Like holding a physical book, nothing beats the book store experience. The smells, shiny new stationary, beautiful hardcovers and being able to browse for hours. I’ve never spent hours shopping for books online lol.
Trilogies or series?
Hmm, not sure there is a big difference but I would say trilogy because it’s hard enough waiting for three books let alone a whole series.
Heroes or villains?
Villains. I usually find them more compelling. My favourite are anti-heroes, the best of both worlds.
A book you want everyone to read.
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. I love music and I find this story very relatable.
Recommend an underrated book.
Well I don’t know if it is underrated so much as an unknown. The book is called The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel. I reviewed it last year. It is a brilliant story with a very powerful message.
The last book you finished.
Confessions of the Very First Zombie Slayer (That I know Of) by F.J.R. Tichenell
Weirdest thing you used as a book mark.
An unopened tampon… yep.
Used books, Yes or no?
Yes if course. Not only are used book stores like giant treasure chests but book donations will bring new readers joy and make room on your shelves.
Top three favourite genres
Sci-fi, Horror and Contemporary fiction. (In that order)
Borrow or Buy?
Both! I love libraries and I think it is important to support your local branches.
Characters or plot?
Characters! You can have the most amazing plot in the world but if the characters are lame and two-dimensional, I will still hate it. The inverse is true as well. If you have incredible characters, a cookie-cutter plot can still be a great read.
Short or long book?
*Smirk…Sorry. I’d say 400-600 pages is good. Sometimes a book is really long just because it needs more editing or is overly descriptive. Just because it’s long, doesn’t mean it’s good. Quality over quantity always. We’re still talking about books right?
Long or short chapters?
Long. You don’t get a prize for having the longest table of contents.
Name the first three books you think of.
Okay probably a boring answer but the three books I mentioned above.
Books that make you laugh or cry.
Both! If a book makes me laugh and cry? chances are it’s a really amazing book.
Our world or fictional worlds?
Our world. Especially dystopian versions of our world.
Do you ever judge a book by its cover?
I want to be able to say no but then I would be lying. Of course I do! Everyone does. If the cover is uninspired there is a good chance the story is as well.
Book to movie or book to TV adaptation?
Movie. In most cases to do a book justice you need fair size budget. Movies typically get more.
Series or standalone?
Standalone. With a series, there is always a chance for it to go one book too long or for one to be better than another. That’s not to say I don’t like them.
I have tagged a few people but really, if you feel like doing this one, well then tag you’re it!
