Movie Review

The Boss Baby- Alec Baldwin

I had no desire to see this one, even though I love DreamWorks. But, my daughter is turning the big 0-3…

…and wanted to see a movie. This was the only age-appropriate option. So, grandparents, aunts & uncles, cousins and us, loaded up on concessions and settled in to watch The Boss Baby.

The Boss Baby (Release Date: March 31, 2017)

A suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.

Starring:  Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, and Jimmy Kimmel

My Thoughts…

Well, I suppose I should start with my almost 3-year-old’s review, as I typically do for family films. She “Didn’t like it.” and “Mommy, I don’t like it. I wanna watch somefing else!”

So, for the toddler set, I would have to agree with my daughter. The humor was a little too mature for her, but we liked it! Alec Baldwin is hilarious and the big brother? Absolutely adorable!

The Boss Baby offers a unique answer to the cringe-inducing question all grown-ups fear, “Where do babies come from?” Though the real answer is hinted at in the flick.

Honestly, this one is definitely for the parents. Older kids will probably enjoy it too, and from what I understand, it is based on a book, so there’s a built-in fan base already. It was a cute movie, but one I would have been fine with watching later on Netflix.

Rating… B

I think it says it all that you daughter didn’t like it, she is after all the target audience for this film! Totally agree that the humour was a bit too mature for a family film.

  2. Thanks for an open-minded positive review. My 9 year old daughter has been bugging me, she must see something in it. We’re finally going tonight. I’ve so far read poor reviews.

Parents of young children be warned, there is a scene early on in the movie in which babies are made to appear to be zombies and this was quite disturbing to our 3 year old and other kids around us. The parents to our right had a crying toddler for the next 5 minutes and the scene just does not suit the movie. It neither advances nor enhances plot, so it was quite unnecessary.
