Movie Review

Wonder Woman- Gal Gadot- Chris Pine

At this point, does this movie even need a review? Everyone knows it’s fantastic! But, since I’m a professional (OMG it was soooooo Good!), I will write a proper critique.

I have waited so long to see this movie! Wonder Woman is such a special icon to me. She’s my hero! So, I initially had some reservations, particularly about how tiny Gal Gadot is (hello Amazons are supposed to be huge and powerful) but from the small glimpse of Gal in the dreadful Batman vs. Superman (only redeeming thing, in my opinion), my esteem of Gal Gadot grew exponentially. Yes of course she’s beautiful, but there’s more to Wonder Woman then her renowned beauty, and in her own film, she just blew me away!

My Thoughts…

The quote “A hero isn’t born, a hero is made” comes to mind, and Wonder Woman is “made” in this film!

I was a kid in the 80’s and grew up watching Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman. I don’t remember a whole lot, except that she was awesome and kicked ass. Of course, there is now a cheese factor associated with the TV show but at the time, I loved it. Whenever I thought about Wonder Woman, Linda Carter came to mind. And though she will will always have a special place in my fangirl heart, the Golden Lasso of Truth has been passed on to a worthy successor.

Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Princess Diana embodies everything that IS Wonder Woman. She is beautiful, strong and powerful, compassionate and intellegent. Really, the list of adjectives could go on but we’d be here all day. Any reservations I had about this talented actress playing my hero have gone out the window. She far surpassed my expectations and I’m happy knowing she will continue to be her for the foreseeable future.

She’s not the only one who has surpassed my expectations, a big standing ovation to DC for finally getting it right after so many years of subpar films. And that makes me so very happy because I’m a DC girl through and through.

I really loved everything about this movie. The action sequences are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The last time I was this impressed by fight and battle scenes was when I first saw 300. That was in 2006! These scenes were even better!

Themyscira was even more beautiful than I ever could have imagined and the rest of the cinematics we equally impressive. The supporting cast was fabulous! Adding the perfect comedic relief when needed, and stepping up for the more serious scenes. I even liked Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, which I was worried about. It’s not that I think he’s a bad actor, but he’s always been Captain Kirk in my head. I think he’s finally surpassed that, for me anyway. Robin Wright, a truly marvelous actress, was incredible! Her role isn’t huge but it’s critical and she nailed it!

Anyway, I know it sounds like I think this was the best movie ever made (could be in terms of superhero movies) but as with everything, it’s not perfect. There are a few little things that I could pick at but honestly, they’re so minor it’s just not worth it. All you guys need to know, is that if you were waiting for a phenominal DC movie and an even better Wonder Woman, you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait to see it again, and again, and again… well you get the idea!

Rating… A+
