I’ve been meaning to do this one for eons! I’m so glad I got a chance to read this book!

It’s a charming story about a normal high school girl (whatever “normal” is) getting to date the guy of everyone’s dream.

Dating the It Guy (Release Date: March 21, 2017)

Emme is a sophomore in high school who starts dating, Brendon Agretti, the popular senior who happens to be a senator’s son and well-known for his good looks. Emme feels out of her comfort zone in Brendon’s world and it doesn’t help that his picture perfect ex, Lauren, seems determined to get back into his life, along with every other girl who wants to be the future Mrs. Agretti. Emme is already conflicted due to the fact her last boyfriend cheated on her and her whole world is off kilter with her family issues.

Life suddenly seems easier keeping Brendon away and relying on her crystals and horoscopes to guide her. Emme soon starts to realize she needs to focus less on the stars and more on her senses.

Can Emme get over her insecurities and make her relationship work? Life sure is complicated when you’re dating the it guy.

My Thoughts…

Just like “Caty” from Mean Girls, learns there is more to “Aaron Samuels” than his good looks and reputation, Emme learns there is a whole lot more to her crush than she originally thought. More importantly, she learns more about herself, her insecurities, and ultimately, what she is looking for in her life.

Emme is attractive, spirited, and a good person. But like everyone else, she has flaws and it makes her a relatable character. She deals with quite a lot for your average teen, and as a result, she has a hard time navigating her relationship with Brendon. She often turns to external measures in order to cope with her problems, but unfortunately they are nothing more than band-aid solutions. Emme eventually learns how to deal with her issues in a more constructive way but it isn’t easy.

I really liked this book. Though I’m a grown woman, I found it very relatable because Emme deals with things that people of all ages go through. She’s an endearing character and I enjoyed her journey of self-discovery.

Dating the It Guy isn’t just a light book about highschool politics and the pitfalls of dating. It goes so much deeper and I heartily recommend it.

Rating… B+

I love books like this, that have depth and touch us in a way that help us to see things in a different light. Even though she’s a high school girl, her insecurities and self esteem issues still affect many of us as adults. Great review!!! I will definitely be checking this one out!!
