Throwback Thursday: Gone by Michael Grant #ThrowbackThursday #YA #Dystopian #Scifi

So in a concentrated effort to ignore the million mosquito bites tormenting me, I thought I would do something a little different today.

Yep, I’m throwing it back! To one of the first YA series that really got me hooked. The Gone Series, by Michael Grant. More specifically, Gone, the first installment to what proved to be a crazy addictive and super exciting series! When I first read these books, they looked like this. Now they have received a very modern and sleek makeover. Sorry, rambling a bit.

Gone (Release Date: July 2008)

In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young.

There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what’s happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It’s a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your 15th birthday, you disappear just like everyone else…

My Thoughts…

Awesome concept!!! It’s like “Lord of the Flies” and “It” got together, had some wine and conceived this series!

Gone starts with everyone over the age of 15 just vanishing into thin air! Imagine a town full of kids ranging from tiny infants to 14! That in itself is horrifying, but then you throw in an ancient, evil entity driving some of the more impressionable kids, and you have all out anarchy.

I loved this book! So much conflict and action. You even have brother pitted against brother (though they aren’t aware at this point). And even though this book features children, No. One. Is. Safe. Everyone and everything is fair game. The writing is incredible and as I mentioned before, very addicting. At the time, I had to wait for each installment (*Shudders with the memory) but now I could easily just binge read the whole series. You know what? I think I just might.

If you haven’t read this book and the rest of the series, do yourself a favour and fire up your Kindle and visit the store…or spend a lovely evening tonight at your local bookstore and splurge on the whole series in print.

Rating… A

  1. I’m glad you enjoyed these so much! I wouldn’t have picked them up based on the covers but the concept is really cool 🙂 For some reason, it sounds really frightening to let kids take over an entire town with no adults around… I can only imagine how chaotic it must be. It’s like The 100 on steroids (but on Earth) xD
    Great review!
