Book Review
Confession time. I totally bought this book based on its cover! I mean, just look at it… can you blame me?
The tag line had me intrigued too but it was 98% the cover. I’m so happy I did, because it was such a unique book!

Wink Poppy Midnight (Release Date: March 2016)
Every story needs a hero.
Every story needs a villain.
Every story needs a secret.
Wink is the odd, mysterious neighbor girl, wild red hair and freckles. Poppy is the blond bully and the beautiful, manipulative high school queen bee. Midnight is the sweet, uncertain boy caught between them. Wink. Poppy. Midnight. Two girls. One boy. Three voices that burst onto the page in short, sharp, bewitching chapters, and spiral swiftly and inexorably toward something terrible or tricky or tremendous.
What really happened?
Someone knows.
Someone is lying.

My Thoughts…
Such a unique, almost poetic story. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything quite like it.
The characters appear to be normal high school kids and yet they all have these strange, fantastical names like Wink and Midnight. They’re also interesting. Each voice is very distinct, providing insight into the lives of classic high school archetypes.
The writing is snappy with short chapters, and the only way I can describe the book would be this; if a classic book of poetry had a short liaison with high fantasy, they would conceive this nameless genre. It’s refreshing in its novelty and really magical.
It was also a little bizarre at times and yet the major themes are very obvious and extremely relevent. I really applaud this author for presenting important teen issues in such an unusual way. Very brave, and I think it works.
Wink Poppy Midnight will not be for everyone, but if you are looking for something different, you should really give it a try. The twist at the end will blow you away and at the very least, this beautiful book will make a great addition to your bookshelves.
Rating… B

It’s just so pretty! It’s been ages since I’ve actually purchased real books so I splurged a bit and this was one of them. Such an amazing acquisition for my shelves 😊
