My Thoughts…

First of all, this book is fantastic! If you haven’t read it yet, I strongly recommend you get on your device of choice and download it. When you’re finished, watch the movie!

The story is a combination of extreme psychological terror and actual horror, and since so much of it plays out in the protagonist’s head, you can imagine how detailed and vivid it must be. It’s these characteristics that make the book incredible, but also very difficult to adapt properly on screen.

Well, I’m  happy to say that Flanagan offers a beautiful translation and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Carla Gugino is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G in this! It’s funny because I read a review recently that called this movie her “break-out” film, and I had to laugh because I wondered where this critic had been hiding all these years. This is NOT her break-out film, but I dare say, it could be her best. And since I can’t give away anything, I will just say this… the whole movie IS “Jessie Burlingame”, and Carla’s got the chops to pull it off. That’s not to say Bruce Greenwood isn’t fantastic because he is, it’s just… well… watch it and you’ll see what I mean.

I can honestly say that this movie is worthy of the book in every way. Great story, talented actors, and plenty of chills.

Gerald’s Game is available on Netflix, so get some popcorn and a glass of wine and give it a watch. Just maybe leave a light on.

Rating… A

  2. OMGGGG That trailer and this movie looks fantastic! I think I will give it a watch this week. It’s crazy to think about being stranded or left helpless as your loved one dies. Wow! Thanks for the review!

  3. Okay, my mum described this book to me and she described it to me in the worst way possible. I believe her choice of phrase “It’s about some woman who’s into kinky stuff” 😛 I think I’m gonna have to give this a try!
