Movie Review
Here I am, reviewing Halloween potentials so you can read and watch only the best!
Which means, you may want to give this one a pass. It’s not bad, but it’s very slow.
1922 (Release Date: October 20, 2017)
A simple yet proud farmer in the year 1922 conspires to murder his wife for financial gain, convincing his teenage son to participate.
Starring: Thomas Jane, Molly Parker, and Dylan Schmid
Director: Zak Hilditch
Rating/ Runtime: TV-MA 1hr 42 min
My Thoughts…
Here we have another King adaptation for Netflix. Unlike Gerald’s Game (Read Review), which was bold and enthralling, 1922 is a slow burn. It is a great story and a terrific example of Karma at its best, I just found it incredibly slow.
The cast is great and Thomas Jane who also starred in The Mist (the movie not that horrible excuse for a TV series), does an admirable job depicting an embittered farmer. A man who perhaps thought he was doing what was best for himself and his son, commits an atrocious act and pays for it tenfold.
There are creepy parts, gruesome parts, and eye-wateringly dull parts. As such, I can best describe this as an okay film. Okay for another time, not when you’re looking for true scares in the week leading up to Halloween.
Rating… C+ or 3 Rats out of 5 😉
Yes rats! If you have or do watch the movie, you know what I’m talking about.
Ugh, I’m glad I’m not the only one who hated the TV show for The Mist. I just couldn’t get into it one bit. I like the rat rating system, btw! 😛

I really loved this one. The slowburn really worked for me mainly because I didn’t see it as a straight line horror picture. I saw it as more of a psychological thriller. I definitely agree on Jane though. One of my favorite performances of the year.

Exactly! Perhaps the classification is wrong. It is definitely more of a crime drama than horror though there are elements of horror. Yes Jane was fabulous!

Sounds like it will be much slower than I anticipated, but maybe after your fair warning that will not be too bad 😉 I have this in queue for this week. Think I will still give it a go. Maybe at bedtime so if I nod off.. haha.

Hear, hear, Colin. We watched it too, expecting a lot, and were heavily disappointed. May I suggest ‘The Babysitter’? 😀

I really enjoyed Full Dark, No Stars the short story collection this novella came from, although 1922 was my least favorite of the four stories in it. Nevertheless, I would be curious to see the movie adaptation.
