Book Review

I’m so pleased to share this special story with you today. Not only is it a wonderful book, but it’s also my debut as a fictional character (Thanks Chauncey!).

I am such a fan of Chauncey’s work and I’d like to think after so many wonderful discussions with him, that we’ve become friends too. So when he told me he wrote a fairy tale at his daughter’s request, how could I not read it? I love fairy tale retellings and this one is fantastic!

Happily (Expected Release Date: April 3, 2018)

If the shoe fits, wear it.
If it doesn’t,
make it.

Laure is a teenage street urchin just trying to get away. Where the rest of the world sees an enchanting love story, Laure sees royal incompetence and an opportunity to exploit it. She’ll have wealth and a way out of a life she detests, if she can only manage to pay off a would-be cloth merchant, outrun the angry bandits, hoodwink the royal family, and survive to tell the tale.

My Thoughts…

If you’ve ever wondered what the rest of the kingdom was doing while Cinderella was having wishes granted by her Fairy Godmother, then this story is for you.

Meet Laure, a feisty, no-nonsense kind of girl who does whatever she has to in order to get by. The way she figures is that if Robin Hood could steal from the rich to give to the poor, than who are we to judge if she steals from the “Haves” to give to the “Have-Nots”. Namely, herself. But she isn’t without morals. She possesses a strong moral compass, she just sometimes puts it in her pocket when it’s not pointing in the direction she needs to go in.

So when she devises a plan to set herself up for the rest of her life and it goes horribly wrong, she needs to improvise quickly because she hasn’t just ruined her own chances now, she has screwed up somebody else’s future happiness as well.

This “Princess Bride” like adventure is well-written, funny, action-packed, and very quirky. I loved it!

If you enjoy fairy tale retellings, you will really like this. Trust me, Cinderella has been done a million ways but never like this. And hey, don’t forget to look for my name 😉

Rating… A
