Movie Review
Entertaining but overall? A little disappointing!
Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom
When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Rafe Spall
Director: J.A. Bayona
Rating/ Runtime: PG-13/ 2 hrs 8 min.
My Thoughts…
Ugh! I’ve been waiting for this movie for sooooooooooooo long! I loved the first one and was thrilled for the sequel. But I should have known by now that just like the original movies, the sequel is always horrible! That’s not totally true but it was a let down for sure.
Think about it, Jurassic Park was extraordinary! It blew minds with its technology and even now it holds up (I should know as I just watched them all again this weekend). The second one, “Lost World” was awful! Nothing new and other than Jeff Goldblum, the main characters did not return. Now Jurassic Park 3? That was brilliant! Sam Neil returned and the movie offered fresh new thrills and new dinosaurs! I loved it.
Well, I think history is repeating itself because Jurassic World was amazing! Chris Pratt was a funny addition (and also eye candy to be honest) and the lovely Bryce Dallas Howard was a fantastic anti-hero type. She worked for the evil, God-playing INGEN but quickly learns the error in her ways and again, there was something new. The nightmare-inducing “Indominus Rex”, not to mention the trained raptors! All good stuff!
Which brings me to Fallen Kingdom. Don’t get me wrong, it was very entertaining. Howard and Pratt are still great together, and there is plenty of action. Unfortunately, it was all regurgitated stuff from previous movies. And the hugely anticipated return of “Dr. Malcolm”? More of a cameo really and not even a good one. There is one awesome twist at the end but instead of doing more with it, it’s merely a footnote to the film. Hopefully they mean to do more with it in the third installment, which as I said, is bound to be amazing if we’re going by the pattern.
I’m a total dino nerd and I love these movies as I loved the book by Michael Crichton, so I can still give it a solid rating. I can’t say the same for other movie critics though. If you’re a fan then I think you will still find it worthy of a great movie night!
Rating… B
Yeah, my boyfriend and I felt very much the same to this after we watched it, too. It was a lot more “meh” than we were expecting. I hope you’re right and the next one will be much better again. 🙂

Let’s hope it follows the same pattern. I will still love it cause it’s dinosaurs tho lol

Yeah…I had similar feelings. It was FUN but a lot of it felt needlessly derivative and it was lacking some of the philosophical/theological depth I like in my Jurassic Park movies. For me, I adore ‘Jurassic Park’ (of course!), ‘The Lost World,’ and ‘Jurassic World.’ I think they are all brilliant. I used to not really enjoy ‘The Lost World’ but I came around to how it displays its message of environmental stewardship. I could easily see teaching them in a class. I enjoy ‘Jurassic Park 3’ a lot but I don’t think I could get the same classroom mileage out of it, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I’m rambling :). Hopefully we do get a third Jurassic World movie because there were so many things they only touched on here! I want more.
And, judging from the opening box office numbers, we will get a third :). Hollywood is nothing if not predictable there. So yay for more dinosaurs!

It’s true, I think I like Lost World more now than when I first watched it but I still think it paled in comparison to the first in every way.
There is already a 3rd Jurassic World in the works and the reviews have not stopped this one’s box office domination so maybe we dino lovers are more forgiving. Either way I look forward to the next one 🙂

Oh I agree. The original ‘Jurassic Park’ is just…PERFECT. I was thinking about that the other day, as I was rewatching it before I went to see the new one. After all this time it holds up. Everything about it fascinates, excites, and engages me as much now as it did when I was a kid.
And YAY for a Jurassic World 3! I hadn’t looked into an official green light yet so you just made my morning! I would love to see the original actors who portrayed Lex and Tim show up sometime. I keep thinking they would be the natural voice to challenge or speak out/about what’s been happening in this new series.

Rumor is some of the original cast are returning 😁 I just hope it’s for more than just a cameo!

OH MY GOSH that would be incredible! Not a bait-and-switch cameo thing, of course. But really binding the series together with a mix of the old and new cast?!? YES!!!! Sign me up!

Ehh.. I’ll still watch it out of respect for the original which was the first movie theater trip of my life and boy oh boy, I still love it.

Oohhh, I loved this movie! I just saw it yesterday, and I think I actually like it more than Jurassic World (which I also loved). There were several parts that made me cry.

This is exactly what I read in another interview – entertaining, but a lot of repeated things.
