OMG! I am totally obsessed! I can’t stop reading these books!
MEG (Release Date: September 1st, 2005)
On a top-secret dive into the Pacific Ocean’s deepest canyon, Jonas Taylor found himself face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom. The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he’s sure he saw but still can’t prove exists – Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark. The average prehistoric Meg weighs in at twenty tons and could tear apart a Tyrannosaurus rex in seconds. Taylor spends years theorizing, lecturing, and writing about the possibility that Meg still feeds at the deepest levels of the sea. But it takes an old friend in need to get him to return to the water, and a hotshot female submarine pilot to dare him back into a high-tech miniature sub. Diving deeper than he ever has before, Taylor will face terror like he’s never imagined. MEG is about to surface. When she does, nothing and no one is going to be safe, and Jonas must face his greatest fear once again.

Ha! You think that’s scary?
Oh man! I LOVED this book! What I thought was going to be a cheesy creature feature type book, turned out to be a riveting adventure blended with real science and historic facts.
I stumbled on this book while perusing the “Recommended Horror” category in the Kobo store. I had no idea that the movie which opens this summer is actually based on a book. I plan on seeing the movie because I love sharks and cheesy monster movies, but I thought “Hey, why not read the book first?” It has 5 star ratings and it was a bit of a splurge in terms of e-book prices, so I figured it had to be an entertaining book at the very least.
It is so much more!
Not only is Alten a fantastic writer, but he clearly spent a ton of time doing research because MEG is rife with marine biology, technology, paleontology, oceanography… the list goes on and on. I have learned so much reading these books. Yep you read correctly, books plural. MEG is a whole series of books and I am addicted. I am on book #4 and I read MEG on the weekend. My right eye has started to twitch and yet I CANNOT stop they’re that good.
If you enjoy Clive Cussler type adventures and gore, you will love this book! Honestly, I cannot gush enough. It’s better than JAWS! I know, I know but it’s true. Even if you have zero interest in seeing the movie this summer, you will not regret reading the book!
Rating… A++ or 6 ginormous prehistoric sharks out of 5!
