80’s kids will love this movie, and because of all the pop culture references, it feels both new and exciting, but also a bit nostalgic at the same time.

My Thoughts…

I have yet to read the book but I probably should now because I really enjoyed the movie. The concept is not wholly original as many popular anime shows like Sword Art Online have a similar idea. What it does offer is a visual feast with spectacular effects and a fun game within a game experience. Sort of like “Where’s Waldo” but unsteady of searching for a dude in a red stripey sweater, you will be looking for your favourite pop culture characters from, TV, video games, and movies.

The SFX are amazing, it has a ton of action, and the cast of talented young actors do a brilliant job of bringing the story to life. I think gamers especially, will really enjoy it and as an 80’s kid, I loved revisiting favourite games and movies of my youth. I mean the main character drives a DeLorean!!! How cool is that? Sorry that’s the only thing I’ll let slip.

I highly recommend it and if you get a chance to watch it in 4K Ultra HD like we did on our new TV, it’s even better!

Rating… A

I would love to hear from those who read the book or better yet, those of you have read it and watched the movie. Like what did you think? How do they compare?
