I LOVE Marian Keyes! I can’t think of a book written by her that I haven’t liked and The Break is no exception!

I’m not exaggerating, she is one of my top five authors and it all started with a library copy of Angels. I fell in love with the dysfunctional but lovable “Walsh” family and since then, I’ve read everything else by her. I literally have a Marian Keyes bookshelf lol.

The Break (Release Date: September 7th, 2018)

‘Myself and Hugh . . . We’re taking a break.’
‘A city-with-fancy-food sort of break?’

If only.

Amy’s husband Hugh says he isn’t leaving her.

He still loves her, he’s just taking a break – from their marriage, their children and, most of all, from their life together. Six months to lose himself in south-east Asia. And there is nothing Amy can say or do about it.

Yes, it’s a mid-life crisis, but let’s be clear: a break isn’t a break up – yet . . .

However, for Amy it’s enough to send her – along with her extended family of gossips, misfits and troublemakers – teetering over the edge.

For a lot can happen in six-months. When Hugh returns if he returns, will he be the same man she married? And will Amy be the same woman?

Because if Hugh is on a break from their marriage, then isn’t she?

I laughed, I cried, it was better than ‘Cats’!

Seriously though, if you are a married woman or someone who has been in a long-term relationship of at least a decade, you will relate to this book on so many levels. I truly think anyone will enjoy it because Keyes is just that good of a writer, but if you have some life experience under your belt, you will appreciate this on a more personal level.

As someone who’s been through the wars, I loved it. There are sooooo many feels! One minute I was laughing my ass off and the next minute I was bawling! This is what she does! She reduces readers into quivering blobs of emotion, but you know in a good way. Also, is there anyone who can do sarcasm better than the Irish? I don’t think so (FYI, I’m Irish lol).

In addition to a captivating storyline, Keyes also writes about a very serious ethical, political, and religious issue that plagues women of all ages in Ireland (2 guesses), and she depicts it with grace and humor without reducing the gravity of its importance.

I adored this book and it will take pride of place next to my other Marian Keyes books 🙂

Rating… A+

  1. This is DEFINTITELY going on my list!! Isn’t it funny that the man walks away to “take a break” I agree, isn’t she on a break too?? Sucks that she still has the children (SOMEONE needs to be the responsible one, I suppose) while he gets to gallivant off to “find himself” or whatever. Ha ha!! Can’t wait to read this one!
