Think Elvira meets Martha Stewart, with a dash of Leave it to Beaver. Yeah, figure that one out lol!
Seeing as I am ridiculously sad to have finished watching The Haunting of Hill House, I needed a little pick-me-up. I was “curious” about this one and I love baking shows, so I thought I’d give it a go.
The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell
Wickedly talented baker and artist Christine McConnell fills her home with haunting confections, creepy crafts — and wildly inappropriate creatures.
Starring: Christine McConnell, Colleen Smith, Adam Mayfield, and Dita Von Teese
This is a very er… unique show. It reminds me of those late night TV shows from the 50’s that showed monster movies, and often had talking puppets. Do you know what I’m talking about? Kind of like Elvira’s show back in the day. But it also has a very Martha Stewart type feel, if Martha Stewart lived with a bunch of monster puppets.
Christine McConnell however, is in a class of her own. She is an amazingly talented pastry chef and artist. She’s also super crafty, and all of her creations from a stunningly beautiful cake that looks like a haunted Victorian mansion, to a sexy evening gown, will simply blow your mind.
The Show
It’s very quirky, and really weird but I’m enjoying it. The cast is a motley crew of monsters, roadkill, and even a magic mirror played by beautiful pin-up, Dita Von Teese.
It’s a strange mix of cooking show and Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, but it works. The dishes and desserts she makes are indescribable, and are leaving me awe-struck. Awe-struk and hungry!
This won’t be for everyone, but it’s perfect for Halloween and it’s fun for the whole family. There are some adult innuendos here and there, but it’s good for older kids. Especially if they have an interest in cooking.
I’m only a couple of episodes in, but I think I will keep watching. It’s my brand of bizarre.
Anyone else watching?
Edit: I take it back. The first few episodes are okay to watch with your kid, but as the show progresses, it becomes increasingly more inappropriate lol, and stick around for the Halloween finale because her last major creation will blow your minds!
Love your blog. Very creative and unique! 😀

Haha I spied this like 2 days before the Hill House but I had to watch that one first, now on to this to cure my Hill House hangover and then on to Sabrina. 😀 Great post!

That’s exactly why I watched. It did the trick for the most part. I’m really looking forward to Sabrina. Riverdale has taken a bizarre turn 😕

Awesome 🙂 I never watched Riverdale, I know that it shares a universe or something like that with Sabrina, but I hope this one will be better! 🙂

I JUST looked at this show last night!! I was worried it was going to end up being one of those awful, cheesy cooking shows like “Nail’d It”… So, I skipped it… Maybe, if I need another late night pick me up I’ll give it another shot!

Not like nailed it at all! Sort of like if the Adams Family had a cooking show lol

Hmm this does sound a bit different and don’t generally watch things like this, so not sure it’d be for me. But I’m very impressed with that design- wow! And it sounds good for halloween! Great review!
