Book Review
Creepy, suspenseful, and perfect for this time of year!
I don’t only read Horror this time of year. I also enjoy Thrillers, particularly the ones of a psychological nature and this one was just perfect!
The Doll House (Release Date: September 14th, 2017)
You never know who’s watching…
Corinne’s life might look perfect on the outside, but after three failed IVF attempts it’s her last chance to have a baby. And when she finds a tiny part of a doll house outside her flat, it feels as if it’s a sign.
But as more pieces begin to turn up, Corinne realises that they are far too familiar. Someone knows about the miniature rocking horse and the little doll with its red velvet dress. Someone has been inside her house…
How does the stranger know so much about her life? How long have they been watching? And what are they waiting for…?

My Thoughts…
Why is it that when people are scared of something, and insist something is happening to them, do the people in their lives question their sanity almost immediately? It’s a dangerous world out there, bad things happen etc… Why the doubt?
In this case, strange things are happening to a pair of sisters and events become sinister quite quickly.
I like the multiple POV style the author used. It’s always fascinating to get each character’s point of view, especially in a psychological thriller like this one. Another benefit, is having richer, fleshed out characters we can understand better. With understanding, comes empathy.
I don’t want to divulge too much, because in this case the fun is in the not knowing, so I do apologize for my vague review. I will say however, that this intense and eerie story kept me gripped from the start, and I enjoyed it immensely.
Great writing, good characters, and loads of suspense make this a solid 5 star read!
Rating… A+

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this novel, I read it last year and still remember quite a few things. A doll house that looks exactly like the real house, it felt creepy! I loved the outsider POV looking in too, it was very stalkerish :-). Great review Shanan !

Eugh, anything with dolls is immediately creepy! Yeah, I agree, maybe the family-and-friends-questioning-sanity is an overused trope. I was watching a show only the other day in which a woman gets institutionalized because her family don’t believe she’s seeing ghosts (and I find it’s very often female characters who are victims of this trope). Great review!

I’m really glad you liked it! I didn’t love this novel, in all honesty. But I have to agree with you: everyone is always so doubtful about the concerns that the main character has! And the multiple POVs were definitely well executed!

Right? Someone says they’re in danger and oh they must be crazy! Perhaps an overused trope 🙂
