Movie Review

During the holidays, I had plenty of time to watch a lot of movies…

Not every film is worth mentioning but this one should be noted if only for the message.

Before I Fall (Release Date: March 3, 2017)

February 12 is just another day in Sam’s charmed life, until it turns out to be her last. Stuck reliving her last day over and over, Sam untangles the mystery around her death and discovers everything she’s losing.

Stars:  Zoey DeutchHalston Sage, and Cynthy Wu

Director:  Ry Russo-Young

Rating/ Runtime: PG-13 1hr 38

My Thoughts…

Here we have another time loop style movie where the victim of the loop is a young, entitled highschool student. She’s beautiful, popular, predictably mean to kids lower on the food chain… you know the usual tropes. She’s also conflicted and often troubled by her actions which implies that deep down, she’s not that bad of a person. Just misguided.

Nothing original there, but Zoey Deutch is charming and likeable as “Sam”, so you find yourself rooting for her when she gets stuck in this horrible loop of reliving the same day over and over. The point being that she must determine what it is that is causing the loop and make the necessary changes in order to stop it.

Overall, a predictable movie with a good, strong message, and an endearing lead. It’s entertaining enough if you are looking for something to watch.

Rating… B
