Movie Review
“We are from the planet Duplo, and we’re here to destroy you.”
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (Release Date: February 8th, 2019)
It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild.
Starring: Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Will Arnett
Director: Mike Mitchell
Rating/ Runtime: G 1hr 46
My Thoughts…
Still awesome, but not quite as awesome as the first one.
Isn’t that always the way though?
Our Lego heroes are back, but this time they have more to fear than just “The Kraggle”. It essentially picks up right where the first one ended, with Duplo invading and then it quickly fast forwards 5 years, where we see the devastating consequences of the invasion.
The sequel has so many delightful references that only parents will get, and I don’t want to risk spoilers so I won’t say what, but grownups will have fun identifying movie references, quotes, and even sets lol.
There is a brand new annoying song for all to enjoy and we have some interesting new additions to the cast, like the Justice League for one. I was tickled to see three generations of Wonder Woman ( Duplo, Lego, & the more realistic looking Playmobil style) make an appearance, and Batman is as self-absorbed and broody as ever.
Overall, it was a cute movie that my daughter enjoyed (we had to purchase the Lego set immediately upon leaving the theater), but it just didn’t have the same spark as the original. That’s the problem though, isn’t it? Often we are amazed simply because of the novelty, and I think when dealing with special, unique films like the original, one is enough.
Still, it’s worth a watch but if you don’t have kiddos demanding to see it on the big screen, you can save it for Netflix.
Rating… B

We saw this last weekend. My son, a huge LEGO fan, loved it. So much so, his grandparents are taking him again this weekend. Fun for the whole family! Also, the song is super annoying. 😂
