Books I Would Love to Read vs Books I Have to Read! @kitfrick @aniaahlborn @SarahDavisGoff @aileen_erin @tehlorkay #BookBlogger #TBR #Books #BookLovers

Good morning!

So, I know as book bloggers we all have two different TBRs, It’s okay, you can admit it, we’re all friends here. The first one is full of submissions, blog tours, and other books that take priority. But then we have TBR #2, the one that’s just for us, with all the books we wish we had the time to read. You know what I’m talking about, the books we read for our own pleasure!

Without further ado, here is a sample of my personal TBR!

17327053The Shuddering by Ania Ahlborn

Ryan Adler and his twin sister, Jane, spent their happiest childhood days at their parents’ mountain Colorado cabin — until divorce tore their family apart. Now, with the house about to be sold, the Adler twins gather with their closest friends for one last snowboarding-filled holiday. While commitment-phobic Ryan gazes longingly at Lauren, wondering if his playboy days are over, Jane’s hopes of reconciling with her old boyfriend evaporate when he brings along his new fiancée. As drama builds among the friends, something lurks in the forest, watching the cabin, growing ever bolder as the snow falls — and hunger rises. After a blizzard leaves the group stranded, the true test of their love and loyalty begins as the hideous creatures outside close in, one bloody attack at a time. Now Ryan, Jane, and their friends must fight — tooth and nail, bullet and blade — for their lives. Or else surrender to unspeakable deaths in the darkened woods.

38203746Last Ones Left Alive by Sarah Davis-Goff

LAST ONES LEFT ALIVE is the story of Orpen, a young woman who must walk on foot across a ravaged Ireland in the desperate hope of saving herself, and her guardian Maeve, from the zombie-like menace known as the skrake. Sarah Davis-Goff’s strikingly original debut will appeal to readers of dystopian literary fiction such as STATION 11 or THE END WE START FROM.

Watch your six. Beware tall buildings. Always have your knives.

Growing up on a tiny island off the coast of a post-apocalyptic Ireland, Orpen’s life has revolved around physical training and necessity. After Mam died, it’s the only way she and her guardian Maeve have survived the ravenous skrake (zombies) who roam the wilds of the ravaged countryside, looking for prey.

When Maeve is bitten and infected, Orpen knows what she should do – sink a knife into her eye socket, and quickly. Instead, she tries to save Maeve, and following rumours of a distant city on the mainland, guarded by fierce banshees, she sets off, pushing Maeve in a wheelbarrow and accompanied by their little dog, Danger. It is a journey on which Orpen will need to fight repeatedly for her life, drawing on all of her training and instincts. In the course of it, she will learn more about the Emergency that destroyed her homeland, and the mythical Phoenix City – and discover a starting truth about her own identity.

42455873The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date #3) by Jasmine Guillory

The new exhilarating romance from The New York Times bestselling author of The Proposal!

Maddie and Theo have two things in common:

1. Alexa is their best friend
2. They hate each other

After an “oops, we made a mistake” night together, neither one can stop thinking about the other. With Alexa’s wedding rapidly approaching, Maddie and Theo both share bridal party responsibilities that require more interaction with each other than they’re comfortable with. Underneath the sharp barbs they toss at each other is a simmering attraction that won’t fade. It builds until they find themselves sneaking off together to release some tension when Alexa isn’t looking, agreeing they would end it once the wedding is over. When it’s suddenly pushed up and they only have a few months left of secret rendezvouses, they find themselves regretting that the end is near. Two people this different can’t possibly have a connection other than the purely physical, right?

But as with any engagement with a nemesis, there are unspoken rules that must be abided by. First and foremost, don’t fall in love.

40543030Lunar Court (Alpha Girl #8) by Aileen Erin

Chris is the guy Cosette always wanted.

Fun. Funny. Lighthearted and sweet. Chris always manages to find beauty and laughter, even when fighting a chapel full of demons. He’s exactly what she needs. Except he’s a werewolf and she’s a member of the Lunar Court — the only fey court that holds sway over the werewolves. Even on his best day, Chris isn’t strong enough to last a few hours in the Lunar Court without becoming a slave. No matter how much Cosette’s heart wants him, she knows she has to let him go.

But when Chris goes missing, Cosette realizes how much she has to lose if the worst happens. Except her mother — the Queen of the Lunar Court — won’t let her go after Chris. Being forced to stay at court is dangerous for Cosette. Assassins keep coming after her, and unless she accepts a mate, it’s only a matter of time before one of them kills her.

Cosette is the girl Chris has always dreamed of.

Chris sees through the tough facade to the girl exhausted from a lifetime of fighting off assassins and court politics. She needs a true friend, someone who she can be herself around, and craves solitude. The same solitude that Chris craves. But he knows he’ll never be enough to survive in her world. So, when Eli — a mysterious archon — requests his help, he figures why not? The guy might be a little shady, but he needs every distraction he can get.

But when Eli says that Cosette’s in trouble, Chris is more than ready to play by Eli’s rules. At least until Eli takes him to the Court of Gales. Chris knows he’s about to play a very dangerous game. Bargaining with the fey is something only a desperate person would do. But what wouldn’t Chris give up to save Cosette’s life?

And that my friends, is just a start! How I wish there were more hours in a day. Maybe this summer I can set my attention on these beauties, when we have carved out some designated vacation time for the family beach house.

What do you have on your secret, just for you TBR?

  1. As a former book blogger, I totally understand the ‘having two TBRs’ thing. In fact, my biggest struggle when I had my book blog was finding time to read what I wanted to instead of what I had to for the blog. However, after giving up my book blog, I was able to finally get around to all those books I had been ignoring. These books sound very interesting, I may have to add some of them to my own TBR.

  2. I have SO MANY on my secret, tbr just for me book list. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Some Susan Mallory books and a few mysteries. Books by one of my favorite authors, Kate Hewitt. So why do I keep requesting more ARC’s?

  3. I added all the creepy ones to my TBR lol, so those are now on mine.

Personally, Every Heart a Doorway and The Darkest Minds are pretty high on my shelf but they are buried under about ten or twenty others I need to read first. I desperately want to read them though!

  4. I don’t really agree. I choose blog tours, arcs etc based on what I want to read not what I’m feel I’m forced to read. What is the fun or point of that? Yes there are books that I’m not granted arcs of that may fall through the cracks and end up on a TBR that take longer to get to because of the arcs I am granted but I never choose arcs or blog tours out of obligation. I choose them because I want to read them.
