Happy Friday guys! It’s a gorgeous day, and it’s going to be a scorcher of a weekend! This book would be great to read poolside, by the lake, or any other large body of water lol!

How to Hack a Heartbreak (Expected Publication Date: July 30, 2019

Swipe right for love. Swipe left for disaster.

By day, Mel Strickland is an underemployed helpdesk tech at a startup incubator, Hatch, where she helps entitled brogrammers—”Hatchlings”—who can’t even fix their own laptops, but are apparently the next wave of startup geniuses. And by night, she goes on bad dates with misbehaving dudes she’s matched with on the ubiquitous dating app, Fluttr.

But after one dick pic too many, Mel has had it. Using her brilliant coding skills, she designs an app of her own, one that allows users to log harrassers and abusers in online dating space. It’s called JerkAlert, and it goes viral overnight.

Mel is suddenly in way over her head. Worse still, her almost-boyfriend, the dreamy Alex Hernandez—the only non-douchey guy at Hatch—has no idea she’s the brains behind the app. Soon, Mel is faced with a terrible choice: one that could destroy her career, love life, and friendships, or change her life forever.

My Thoughts…

My first impression was that this book was going to be hilarious! I think it was the first mention of “Dick Pics” that clinched it lol. My next thoughts were, “Man am I ever glad to not be out there in the dating world right now!” I’m all for modern technology, obviously, but I would not want it merging with my love life! You hear that Hubby? No get out of jail free cards for you!

How to Hack a Heartbreak is a refreshing commentary on modern dating, and who better to be the star of the show, than a tech savy coder named Mel?

Mel is a sharp, witty character who has a fab group of successful women as friends, and one of the things they all have in common is the use of what essentially is a hook up app. Looking for real connections through this medium is proving impossible but what else is a girl to do nowadays? Well Mel has had it and decides to do something about it!

It was really interesting reading about a woman in a still predominately male field, as it never ceases to amaze me that we are still dealing with this kind of caveman mentality in 2019! As a mother to a young girl, I can only hope things continue to improve, that the glass ceiling gets smashed forever, but I digress.

Funny dialogue, snappy writing, and a hugely relatable story, will have you giggling, and rolling your eyes well into your second or third glass of wine. This is a one-sit, delightful read, and if you are looking for a fun book with an underlying theme of “Girl Power”, then this one’s for you!

Rating… A

Make sure to look for it on Amazon July 30th!
