Hey guys, happy Friday eve! I can’t believe we’re coming up to last long weekend of the summer. Always flies by way too quickly.

Anyhoo, here’s a throwback review for you!

Leave Me (Publication Date: September 6, 2016)

For every woman who has ever fantasized about driving past her exit on the highway instead of going home to make dinner, for every woman who has ever dreamed of boarding a train to a place where no one needs constant attention–meet Maribeth Klein. A harried working mother who’s so busy taking care of her husband and twins, she doesn’t even realize she’s had a heart attack.

Afterward, surprised to discover that her recuperation seems to be an imposition on those who rely on her, Maribeth does the unthinkable: She packs a bag and leaves. But, as is so often the case, once we get to where we’re going, we see our lives from a different perspective. Far from the demands of family and career and with the help of liberating new friendships, Maribeth is finally able to own up to secrets she has been keeping from those she loves and from herself.

My Thoughts…

While I can honestly say, I’ve never imagined leaving my family. Despite any foibles or stress that comes as part of family life, I would just miss them too much. Perhaps, I have it better than some but I just can’t imagine it. I can however, relate to the demands and stress of taking care of a family, working, and taking care of our home. Even though I have a totally capable partner, a lot of the time it is just easier to do it myself, or do it “my way” and I’m sure many women can relate to that.

This is my first book by this author, and aside from great writing, the thing I appreciated most was the authenticity of the story. This isn’t a light read sugar coated with comedy. This is about a woman who could have possibly died and literally felt she needed to run away to save her own life. Abandoning her husband and children. Yes, even her babies!

This is a good, strong read! A great story of growth and self-discovery, and I enjoyed it. I look forward to reading Gayle Forman’s other books.

Rating… A
