Book Review
One of my favourite genres of fiction is Dystopian, especially YA Dystopian, and this duology ticked all the boxes for me!
The Rains #1 (Publication Date: October 18th, 2019)
In one terrifying night, the peaceful community of Creek’s Cause turns into a war zone. No one under the age of eighteen is safe. Chance Rain and his older brother, Patrick, have already fended off multiple attacks from infected adults by the time they arrive at the school where other young survivors are hiding. Most of the kids they know have been dragged away by once-trusted adults who are now ferocious, inhuman beings. The parasite that transformed them takes hold after people turn eighteen—and Patrick’s birthday is only a few weeks away.
Determined to save Patrick’s life and the lives of the remaining kids, the brothers embark on a mission to uncover the truth about the parasites—and what they find is horrifying.
Battling an enemy not of this earth, Chance and Patrick become humanity’s only hope for salvation.

My Thoughts…
I’m not going to lie! Both of these books were impulse buys based on instant cover love! I mean I skimmed the back after I decided to buy them, but initially I wanted them because the would looks so good on my bookshelves.
Well, I am happy to say that this was one of those times where I didn’t regret my impulse because the Rains duology was such an enjoyable reading experience. I read both books in the span of two days (Could not put them down), and took numerous pics for my Instagram (How could I not?).
I really liked the idea behind these books. We have an apocalyptic event that only affects the adults in the world, turning them into monsters, but it’s not a zombie thing. An alien invasion adds a fun twist. I loved that it was about two brothers against the world, maybe not ours but it still applies. Their relationship is crucial to the story and though you will be rooting for both of them, circumstance and parasites are trying to tear them apart.
Both books are exciting, well -written, and totally unputdownable (it’s a word now)! There were of course a few of the usual YA tropes as it is almost impossible to avoid them, most notable the love triangle trope but it’s done well. Also, non-stop action and plenty of gore as befitting a plot such as this. It was awesome!
If you’re looking to immerse yourselves into something like this but don’t have the time to commit to a whole series, then I happily recommend this set of books.
Honestly, I wish authors would write more duologies because sometimes one amazing book isn’t enough!
