So much Slayer goodness!

This was such a nostalgic read for me as I am a HUGE Buffy fan, and nothing has filled the gaping wound since the final episode aired many, many years ago!

Naturally, I started with Slayer, which was also fantastic but in Chosen, Nina the MC, really comes into her own.

Chosen (Slayer #2)

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

Nina continues to learn how to use her slayer powers against enemies old and new in this second novel in the New York Times bestselling series from Kiersten White, set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Now that Nina has turned the Watcher’s Castle into a utopia for hurt and lonely demons, she’s still waiting for the utopia part to kick in. With her sister Artemis gone and only a few people remaining at the castle—including her still-distant mother—Nina has her hands full. Plus, though she gained back her Slayer powers from Leo, they’re not feeling quite right after being held by the seriously evil succubus Eve, a.k.a. fake Watcher’s Council member and Leo’s mom.

And while Nina is dealing with the darkness inside, there’s also a new threat on the outside, portended by an odd triangle symbol that seems to be popping up everywhere, in connection with Sean’s demon drug ring as well as someone a bit closer to home. Because one near-apocalypse just isn’t enough, right?

The darkness always finds you. And once again, it’s coming for the Slayer.

My Thoughts…

This is going to be tricky because it is the second book of a series and I don’t want to spoil what could be potentially be an EPIC series for Buffy fans!

The timeline of this and the first book takes place after the world nearly ended but was saved one final time by Buffy and her army of Slayers, otherwise known as the episode that tore my heart out. But, there are obviously some tweaks and other events that happen in this new series as well. See I told you, very tricky! Let’s just say, Slayers are a dime a dozen now, and there have been some mega changes to the Watchers Council.

In Chosen, Nina is still reeling from the events that transpired in Slayer #1, and though she is grieving, it is her mission to save demons and Slayers alike who need salvation from true evil. Despite the growing darkness within her, she still wants to do the right thing, still wants to adhere to the Watcher’s way. Her teachings are still important to her and she desperately wants to reconcile being a powerful Slayer with what she holds dear. She’s also starting to understand Buffy a little more, and perhaps understands why she walked away from the Council.

As if that’s not enough on her plate, there seems to be a new baddy in town, and she needs to get to the bottom of it before time runs out.

I really loved this book, just as I loved Slayer! These are the first books from this author that I have read, but will not be the last. Chosen really transported me back in time, and dropped me into a world I love and sorely missed.

The new characters are fantastic, and the references and even appearances of the characters we know and love made the experience that much sweeter.

Even if you aren’t a fan, I think readers who enjoy YA, adventure, and things that go bump in the night, would really love these books too.

Chosen is the perfect book to spawn a new generation of Slayer fans!

Rating… A+

Huge thanks to Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
