I know another review! I’m as shocked as you are! It’s still more of a mini one but progress is progress!

Kingdom of the Wicked (Kingdom of the Wicked #1)

Publication Date: October 27th, 2020

Genre: YA Fantasy/ Witches

Two sisters.

One brutal murder.

A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…

And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

My Thoughts:

“He was death and rage and fire and anyone stupid enough to forget that would be consumed by his inferno.” ~ Kingdom of the Wicked.

Well, I’m nothing if not predictable! Wrath made this book for me because I never tire of the dark-broody-redeemable-immortal trope lol!.

This was a really fun read! I loved the atmosphere the author created. Her sea-sprayed Italian village was the perfect backdrop for magic, carnage and sin.

Much like Maniscalco’s Jack the Ripper series, this one was a blend of detective novel/ fantasy and it worked for me. My only complaint and it’s more a preference than anything else, is that Kingdom of the Wicked was too PG for me LOL!!!.

I know, I know not necessary for a great story but SJM has just risen my expectations for all romantic fantasy.

My absolute favourite part about this story was the last few chapters, particularly the ending!!! Omg that ending!!! The wait for the next one is going to be killer!

I would give this 4.5 dark grimoire pages out of 5, just because I would have wanted more heat and word has it that book #2 in the series is going to be this author’s steamiest book to date!

  1. I agree with you about the steaminess I would have like more as well. I stated in my review that it wasn’t as swoon worthy as the romance in her other series and I think the lack of steam had a lot to do with that. I cannot wait for book two. It’s going up for preorder on Monday and you better believe I’m going to be preordering it so hopefully it will get here on release day.
