My Thoughts…

I feel as though I should be slapped on the wrist or something because not only have I just watched this movie for the first time, I haven’t read the book either! I know! It’s shocking! It just sort of flew under my radar and even though it’s been on Netflix for years now, I just haven’t felt like it. Now I suppose I should read the book too huh?

Anyway, I just love Logan Lerman! I think he’s adorable and have liked him in films since Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. That said, it’s not until I watched this one that I’ve realized how talented he is as an actor. I mean for a lot of it, he is very quiet and unassuming, but then as things start to unravel for him, he really ramps it up and I was very impressed!

Emma Watson is sweet as expected but as this was one of her first post- Harry Potter films, she still seemed very Hermoine-esque to me. I also enjoyed Ezra Miller’s performance. His character was a very likeable charmer and he portrayed it well.

In terms of the plot, this coming-of-age trope has been done to death since John Hugh’s days but the underlying plot, the real story about what happened to ‘Charlie’ was very good and really heart-breaking.

Overall, a solid film with if not original characters, then endearing ones.

I wonder how the book compares? My feeling is that it may be a lot deeper, darker am I right? You guys will have to let me know.

Rating… B
