Again, I’m late to the party!!! How is it that there is an entire sequel trilogy for the Gone series (top 5 favourite YA series), and I am just reading them now?

Monster (Monster #1) Publication Date: October 19, 2017

It’s been four years since a meteorite hit Perdido Beach and Everyone disappeared. Gone. Everyone, except the kids trapped in the FAYZ – an invisible dome that was created by an alien virus. Inside the FAYZ, animals began to mutate and teens developed dangerous powers. the terrifying new world was plagued with hunger, lies, and fear of the unknown.

Now, four years later, meteorites are hitting Earth with a virus that is even deadlier. Humans will mutate into creates with power…and the whole world will be exposed.

But power corrupts. As some teens begin to morph into heroes, they will find that others become dangerously out of control and that the world is on the brink of a monstrous battle between good and evil.

And there is only one thing more terrifying than the fear of the unknown: when history repeats itself.

In this first of a trilogy, Michael Grant has created a stunning follow-up to the globally bestselling Gone series

My Thoughts…

How do I miss out on these things? Seriously, I need to come up with a system or something. Regardless, at least I won’t have to wait on the last 2 books in the trilogy.

Okay first I’m going to start by saying I LOVED the Gone series with a capital L! It had all my favourite elements of a great YA Sci-Fi series! Horror, chaos, intrigue, pathos, mutants… I mean it had it all! I happily re-read this series yearly, which reminds me, I’m overdue.

So here we are 4 years later, and the same evil virus that created the FAYZ is about to crash land all over the world, hitching a ride on several meteorites. The thing is, some people are well aware of what’s coming, even before the rest of the populace. In fact, they aren’t just aware, they’re counting on it!

Monster introduces us to some new characters and reunites us with some of our heroes who survived the FAYZ. It also stands to reason that if some of our heroes survived, then perhaps a villain has too.

I will say no more on that because spoilers, but I will say, that this new saga is exciting and fun in a completely new way! It has a distinct comic book vibe that new readers will really enjoy. I say new, because it is possible to read this trilogy on its own, but you will be doing yourself a huge disservice, if you don’t read the first series beforehand.

That said, as much as I enjoyed Monster, I really liked the Gone books more! Monster just didn’t hook me the way the first book of the original series did. Don’t get me wrong, I will continue on with the Monster books, this is just my initial impression. These books deliver a different kind of mayhem, and I appreciate a more nihilistic mayhem.

If you’ve read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts. For the rest of you, I’ll keep you posted!
