Happy Friday my bookish pals! Phew, three reviews in one week, amazing lol!

Here’s another fabulous book I purchased as soon as it was released, that I’m ashamed to be reviewing just now (bad book blogger!), but my passing slump was relentless, not to mention my TBR is ginormous! Better late than never?

The Whisper Man (Publication Date: August 20th, 2019)

In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and son caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.

After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.

But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed “The Whisper Man,” for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.

Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter’s crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.

And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window…

My Thoughts…

Don’t you just love when a debut novel is so good you just can’t believe the author doesn’t already have a collection of bestsellers under their belt? That was the case with The Whisper Man and Alex North. I was so impressed with the calibre of writing, and killer plot, no pun intended, that I can easily see Mr. North becoming a household name.

This story is about every parent’s worst nightmare, a child going missing, while a terrifying serial killer is on the loose. One who preys on lonely children and whispers into their windows at night *Shudders…

Tom moves to a picturesque town with his son Jake in hopes to make a fresh start after the death of his wife. Unfortunately, the day they move into their new home, Jake’s odd behavior continues, and because he has been exhibiting all sorts of strange things since the death of his mother, Tom doesn’t know what to make of it all. All he knows is that something inexplicable is occurring and he needs to get to the bottom it, despite his constant doubts and misgivings.

Meanwhile, a missing boy turns up, and Detective Pete Willis believes that the town’s most prolific serial killer has something to do with it.

I really enjoyed this book! It was intense, enthralling, and it even had a paranormal element I wasn’t expecting. I will say that due to the overwhelming hype surrounding this book, the bar was set extremely high for me, and happily, The Whisper Man met and even exceeded most of my expectations. The only this is that I had expected it to be even darker than it was. What’s darker than a serial killer who preys on children you ask? Absolutely nothing! But most reviewers were stating that it was “scary”, and incredibly “creepy”. Clearly my definition of creepy has been coloured by a lifetime of reading horror, because it wasn’t as scary as I was expecting.

Other than me being desensitized and not appreciating the creep factor, The Whisper Man proved to be a fantastic thriller with rich characters, tons of suspense, and more than a few twists. It was the perfect book for Fall, and I can’t recommend this page-turner enough!

Rating… A
