Eternal Darkness Review

I love hosting authors during blog tours! You get to read the most amazing books.

Books you may not have discovered on your own through the usual means. Eternal Darkness by J.F. Johns, is a perfect example. Dystopian sci-fi is one my favourite genres but lately I haven’t had a lot of time for personal reading. Then this fabulous novel falls in my lap, and I feel like I picked it out just for me.

Eternal Darkness (Release Date: January 11, 2017)

The world is divided between humans and cyborgs.
Scarlet Lock is neither.
She is a soldier created to kill on command. But her memory has been erased and when she awakens in a government facility she soon discovers that this new world is a dangerous place, full of government secrets and cruel experiments performed in the name of progress.
With the help of a group of cyborgs, Scarlet will fight to uncover the truth and transform the future of the new world she now lives in.
Eternal Darkness is full of suspense, action and romance and will make readers question what it means to be human.

My Thoughts…

I loved it! Eternal Darkness is well written, exciting and thought-provoking. My favourite thing about it, is the POV. What a nice change to read a sci-fi novel from the perspective of the cyborgs. It is very easy to identify with the cyborg population, even root for them. However, I wouldn’t say they are the obvious heroes of the tale. As usual humans are brainwashed through fear, which adds a layer of complexity to the story

The protagonist, Scarlett on the other hand, is a hero to root for. She is designed to be a killer and yet she has more compassion, more humanity than most of the humans in the community. I really like her character. She is flawed but I believe she will do what is right in the end. She reminds me a little of Katniss— Not the obvious choice to save “the day” but the right choice because Scarlett encompasses what is good about being human and a cyborg.

Eternal Darkness marks the beginning of what is sure to be a great series. I look forward to reading more. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go purchase book #2.
